about ANNIE

My work as a psychotherapist involves serving clients in the capacity of trauma therapist, grief counselor, and guide. I am curious, compassionate, nurturing, and able to be direct, when necessary. I also believe, even in our darkest moments, a sense of humor is a necessity. Laughter, even in the depths of healing great pain, is one of the constants in my practice.

As a therapist, I am trauma-focused and informed. My understanding of many of life's struggles and how we heal are largely guided by the theoretical framework of EMDR, the AIP (Adaptive Information Processing).  EMDR therapy helps you to rapidly process and digest the emotions, beliefs and sensations that have been activated and stored through events you have experienced. Once a memory is processed, you can think back on that experience without disturbance and as you move forward, you can recall that time with feelings of calm. You can read more about EMDR and the AIP (here). Along with EMDR, I integrate ego-state therapy, from the theoretical models of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Structural Dissociation.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California, a Certified EMDR Therapist, and an Approved Consultant  with the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). In addition to my work with clients, I serve as a clinical supervisor to emerging clinicians, professional consultant to EMDR therapists, and a mentor to clinicians in private practice. I earned a Certificate in Traumatic Stress Studies with the Trauma Center at Justice Research Institute 2017-2018, and a certificate in Domestic Violence Crisis Intervention with the Community Resource Center 2013. My areas of advanced study are in EMDR, post-traumatic stress disorder, complex trauma, grief & loss, Internal Family Systems, Structural Dissociation, developmental trauma, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I have advanced training in treating recent traumatic events, both individually and in group or family settings. I am dedicated to learning and expanding my skill set within my field, seeking ongoing professional consultation, mentorship and advanced training throughout the year.

I currently live in North County San Diego with my partner, Ryan, and our beloved pup, Stella.

If you are in pain or feeling stuck, and my approach feels like it might be a good fit for your needs, contact me and together we can determine the appropriate next steps for you.
